On New Year's Day 2025 at 3:15am, a pickup truck drove into a crowd celebrating on Bourbon Street, New Orleans. The attack resulted in the deaths of 14 people and left many others injured.
Holmdel township officials have dedicated a road near Holmdel High School in memory of William “Billy” DiMaio, the 25-year-old standout athlete who tragically lost his life in the New Orleans terror attack on New Year’s Day. Mayor Brian Foster, Deputy Mayor Kim LaMountain, and committee member Rocco Impreveduto unveiled two signs designating the PNC Bank Arts Center access road toward the Garden State Parkway off Crawfords Corner Road as “Billy DiMaio Boulevard.”
Second Line in the Sky is a temporary memorial and lighting installation created to honor the lives lost on January 1 and to hold space for reflection, healing, and remembrance. Suspended across the 100–300 blocks of Bourbon Street, nearly 1,000 hand-crafted flags and illuminated Second Line–inspired elements form a glowing canopy overhead—inviting visitors to pause, look upward, and remember.

We have officially reached the 1.5-year anniversary of the loss of Billy DiMaio.
As we reflect on Billy’s life and legacy, we’re honored to share this video from the First Annual Billy DiMaio 5K.
Thank you to Holmdel High school students Adrian Shehata & Lia Cortese for volunteering their time to photograph the event.
As you watch, please take a moment to remember Billy—his smile, laughter, love, and compassion. The way he lit up a room and made people feel seen. Remember our beloved Billy DiMaio. ❤️
